did it tonight, from gmail to gmail, think I sent them using twobirdstone... ...these are crude drawings, not blue prints. ... but the BOM and costs spreadsheet was pretty exhaustive! you should get seven emails.

Great Larahna! Glad to see you active again. May I suggest that a small, 10'x10', greenhouse be attached to the hexayurt in which both the composting toilet, the shower, and the greywater is used? I have some rough drawings I'll scan this week.

That's a nice system! Maybe we're on the wrong track focusing strictly on pyrolysis.

Just found an interesting article about an indian biomass-to-diesel/gas converter: Biomass gasifier-based power generation system. It shows also some drawings of the systems.

Thanks for the kind clarification. I'm only a kind of universal dilettante and trying to make some links ... hope you don't mind.

AFAIK you can use hot water only by extracting the thermal energy via heat exchanger. So you have warmth again, for heating etc. But I guess there exists methods to raise the temperatur, for instance by thermal heat pumps or engines, to produce stea…

Hi negiliblek, maybe its not necessary to send me the crude plans, but please keep in mind that there are other people interested in such line of thinking and if we cooperate we just may achieve something some day.
Do share your knowledge and experience when its ripe enough. Keep in mind that I am interested in how you will develop this. So let me know when you have the plans.
:)

Hi there, you should share your plans of hexayurt + other facilities, I am also last few days thinking about such a system. Thanks!

OK I am back in play mode again. I am at a farm in Alabama thinking about hexayurts! Where are you at now? Close to alabama?

Might be what you are looking for. Found it doing a search on "hand crank shortwave transmitter". Don't know how well it works.

have no fear... i leave crumbs along the rambling trail so i can get back. i do the same thing. i'm fighting with my computer tonight trying to get my cell to operate as a modem...not successful YET....but i intend to continue.

Joel Barker years ago did a business book on paradigms and he has an excellent model that discusses the shifting of paradigms.

he explains that there are some pioneers that recognize that the current popular paradigm is doing to die and start making the preparation to fix the emerging issues that the old paradigm won't address...

that is where many of us pioneers seem to fall in....thre is not the critical mass or motivation to leave the currently working paradigm..

I'm not sure what form continuing will take... the purpose of healthy community is well community....and lone woman in the wilderness is just not that picture. i don't see real progress, i only see personal exhaustion and that is not good for further development of ...well anything....so I'm not sure if I can take the lessons learned and the vision that i see and perhaps look at other growing or developing projects...

I'm speaking from the exhaustion of not seeing enough progress and from the excited hope of realizing that it must happen.... it really is the re-pioneering of society...a preview of what the next paradigm will be..... I think.....lol!

I would indeed welcome the exchange. Here is the quick update.....with a little background about me to hopefully help it all make sense.

I am the social developer. I am concerned with social systems. How people work together and how we can help people work and live WELL together. I am concerned about the social, emotional, and spiritual conditions that cause, allow, prompt or encourage people to live in community. I came into the development of this community with the hopes of realizing how what I believe must be done, could actually happen. How can we usher people into a microcosm, a mini (controlled even) society where they are living sustainable in a way that is healthy to self, others and the universe. Well.....what I am finding out is that even the thought is way way ahead of the curve. Collecting the personnel and financial support has been exhausting. The conveyance of the vision prompts people into agreement. They agree that we've gotta live better. They understand that we must care for the environment better in order for it to care for us well. However.....it does NOT generally move them to the point of action; the kind of action that requires letting go of how (and why) we live the way we do.

My ambitious goal was of building a development team of 9 that would commit to building this prototype. That has not happened. The funding that was on the verge of spilling into this project has dried up into dust.

And on top of that we have had sub freezing temps and snow in a region where it just shouldn't happen.

So my new thoughts.....should this development have been launched in spring or summer? Are people really ready for this type of drastic project living experiment/test? What is a better way of gathering a core group committed to the point of packing up and heading to the wilderness? Should I make an appointment at the nearest mental health clinic? Is this vision really important and if it is won't the resources eventually come for it to manifest?

I am convinced that the tech knowledge is already here to make it happen. I am equally convinced that if we don't work out the kinks and bugs in the social system then all the best tech that we have for sustainability and all things green, WONT allow us to effectively build healthy communities.

So...unless an infusion of capital comes in..like yesterday...this project will be scaled back to the theoretical development on paper and digital media until such a time as there is sufficient support.

The wild think is there are individuals all around the world who see it, who get it...unfortunately there are not usually enough in any one spot! If you find some in the south east region.....have them give me a buzz! lol

Live life fully today!

The Farm has never (to my knowledge) recruited specific skills or people.

However some people find it easier to fit in due to certain skill sets.

it is difficult to distill three golden principles about successful community. For a great case study of successful and not so successful communities check out dianna lief christian creating a life together and her ecovillage newsletter.

be well

Easiest way to understand how we try to make "infrastructure for the experts to thrive" is to follow us at the Akvo blog http://akvo.org/blog

negiliblek,

Actually I am no expert at all. I just provide infrastructure for the experts to thrive.

What is the best solution I would say it depends on your context and initial conditions. We have the newly relaunched Akvopedia Sanitation portal, which contains state of the art content which is possibly the best in the field. It should allow you to select what works best.

Check it out at: http://www.akvo.org/wiki/index.php/Portal:Sanitation
