Trash Technology and Recycled Solar: Plastic Bottles

Solar water disinfectionhttp://www.sodis.ch/index_ENA two liter plastic bottle can be made into a water treatment system simply by filling it with contaminated water and exposing it to the sun. Sodis is an organization that promotes this technology around the world. The disinfection process can be speeded by turning aluminized mylar snack food bags inside out and making them into reflectors as two young women in Belo Horizonte, Brazil discovered:…See More

Open Source Global Outcome Simulation Games

The last few days of conversation on the coalition of the willing googlegroup (coalition@googlegroups.com) : Dante Gabryell Monson:"In order to create a simulation game with maximum potential for catalyzing a paradigm shift, you need to have a knowledge layer which the game layer uses to create the game environment, and to define the rules and the responses that are elicited from players, and the consequences of player actions and environmental capacity and changes. What we are seeing in…See More

""Any window that sees direct sunlight is a solar collector." - Aye, the most efficient solar is solar that is used directly, as in passive solar and solar hot water. The hi-tech stuff will be great when it becomes affordable, but passive…"

Solar PSA: A South-Facing Window Is Already a Solar Collector

Here's my latest Solar PSA on how a south-facing window is already a solar collector: http://www.youtube.com/v/FdGAdEq242M? "Any window that sees direct sunlight is a solar collector.  You can learn how to use that free energy to make your home more comfortable and secure.  Caulk and seal the window against drafts.  Install storm windows on the exterior, interior, or both.  Cover the window at night with an insulating curtain to prevent…See More

About Me
I am a writer who has been thinking about energy for over 30 years. I concentrate on small scale solar and am trying to convince people that solar swadeshi is eminently feasible using the solar/dynamo radios NATO and the US have distributed in Afghanistan, especially when linked to the legacy of Badshan Khan, the Pashtun Gandhi.

Solar Light Sources

ToughStuff makes flexible solar cells, LED lights, rechargeable battery packs, and radio and cell phone connectors for solar village entrepreneurs in the developing world.

They also sell a solar panel and LED light combination for $30 here in the US as a "buy one, fund one" program where half the proceeds go to funding one of their solar entrepreneur kits.

We equip local Village Entrepreneurs with a set of…

I took a look at your blog spot.. I just discovered solar air heaters; the one I discovered working was a vertical rectangle and therefore did not need a fan -sad to think the one you know is going out of commission!

I've looked for solar powered or hand crank ham radios (with the ability to transmit) and couldn't find any. Sure, I found some people who used solar panels for their ham radio; but having the hand crank built in seems only to exist on WWII movies. -unless you know of a source!

You've written so extensively about Ghandian economics, it's really amazing. Would you like to participate in a podcast interview via Agroinnovations Podcast to talk about what you've learned and written? I would certainly appreciate it, and I'm sure our listeners would too.
