Urgent Evoke http://www.urgentevoke.com/ is an online game that will go on for the next few months designed to solve real problems with a global network in an imagined future of 2020. It was built by some of the same people who built SuperStruct, a…

Thanks Lukas, for now it's only an idea in my head. I was also thinking the only thing needed is the joints. Since we know the configuration, those could be manufactured cheaply in the millions out of hard plastic and dropped in any disaster area t…

Thanks for reading. Next year is the 50th anniversary of the World Game and some people may be planning something for that.

Hey, that's brilliant. I think all that would be needed is the joints. These could be flown in, dropped from planes together with the plastic, or whatever. It's a new kind of tent, and could be done now with tarp, maybe. I'm thinking Haiti, of cou…

Great compilation, George. Thanks! (Some would find the links in dailykos etc interesting, in order to look at other people's comments.)

I've been publishing different versions of "Mr Franklin's Folks" for nearly a decade. It's about groups of people going to some of the over 4,600 farmers' markets that happen every week across the USA from Memorial Day to Halloween or Thanksgiving t…

Great to see Buckminster Fuller's idea come to life in this way. There are many things Buckminster worked out and suggested that could be put to use. For instance, if someone could figure out a good way to use cut bamboo sticks for the construction…

About Me
I am a writer who has been thinking about energy for over 30 years. I concentrate on small scale solar and am trying to convince people that solar swadeshi is eminently feasible using the solar/dynamo radios NATO and the US have distributed in Afghanistan, especially when linked to the legacy of Badshan Khan, the Pashtun Gandhi.

Urgent Evoke is an online problem-solving game to tackle global problems. It was designed by Jane McGonigal who also designed SuperStruct, another online game to design an ecological future that ran last year.

Solar Light Sources

ToughStuff makes flexible solar cells, LED lights, rechargeable battery packs, and radio and cell phone connectors for solar village entrepreneurs in the developing world.

They also sell a solar panel and LED light combination for $30 here in the US as a "buy one, fund one" program where half the proceeds go to funding one of their solar entrepreneur kits.

We equip local Village Entrepreneurs with a set of ToughStuff products and the t

But check where I am before you try to visit me :-) - I'm usually in Asia/Australia (currently Melbourne). I'd love to visit the Americas again.

Would love to visit Cambridge MA again - don't know when though.

You've written so extensively about Ghandian economics, it's really amazing. Would you like to participate in a podcast interview via Agroinnovations Podcast to talk about what you've learned and written? I would certainly appreciate it, and I'm sure our listeners would too.

I took a look at your blog spot.. I just discovered solar air heaters; the one I discovered working was a vertical rectangle and therefore did not need a fan -sad to think the one you know is going out of commission!

I've looked for solar powered or hand crank ham radios (with the ability to transmit) and couldn't find any. Sure, I found some people who used solar panels for their ham radio; but having the hand crank built in seems only to exist on WWII movies. -unless you know of a source!
