Agroinnovations Podcast #57: Gandhian Economics with George Mokray (Part I)

For episode #57 I am joined by George Mokray, who has read and written extensively about Gandhian economics. Gandhi is often remembered for his civil disobedience and non-violent approach to ending British imperialism, but his economic thought and philosophy is perhaps more fundamental to his strategy for personal and communal liberation. More relevant than ever before, Gandhi's thinking must be studied and internalized by those who wish to promote real change in our society. To listen, visit:

Feels like self-promotion but it also feels like getting the word out about Gandhi's economic theories.

I think this was an extremely important interview that should be absorbed by people in this struggle. So many key points that I see as part of the new way to live- self-rule, localization of resources and labor, service rather than charity, working for the betterment of all. The title of the interview didn't attract my attention much at first as I had no idea that it would be so rich! Gandhi most certainly needs to be recognized for his 'economic' work just as much, if not more than, his non-violent civil disobedience efforts. This other side of his work gives a much more applicable approach to systems change than simply resisting- we have a new system to build that replaces the old one!
